Too many people are being left behind as automation transforms our economy. Conan is a leading voice at the regional and state levels, supporting tailored investments for education and training opportunities. 


  • Guided the restructuring agencies so that no employee was let go during the 2008 financial crisis despite a county loss of about 30% in tax revenue.

  • Led the merger of three workforce development agencies that put an additional $800,000 per year into direct human services, while serving as the Vice Chair of the Michigan Works Association and as a member of our regional workforce consortium.

  • Created the Office of Community Economic Development of Washtenaw to focus on reducing income inequality across the county.

  • Oversees the state's workforce development and unemployment agencies as a member of the Governor's Talent Investment Board.
