Conan knows that environmental protection and economic development can successfully work in tandem when implemented thoughtfully. 


  • Founded the Southeast Michigan Regional Energy Office, a coalition of twenty-six local governments that work collaboratively to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Drafted the Joint Planning Act, which legally allows units of government to form joint planning commissions.

  • Set up solar hot water systems on top of both the Washtenaw County Jail and County Administration Building.

  • Sponsored the creation of the Coalition for Action on Remediation of Dioxane (CARD), a multi-stakeholder group that oversees the Gelman Sciences, Inc. pollution site.

  • Served as the founding Board Chair of Michigan Saves, a nonprofit that supports low cost financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

  • Building a five megawatt solar array to generate 50 percent of the county’s electricity from renewable resources.
